Little Black Dress: Mexi-style

A casual day. It's been a while since my last style post. I just got caught up in other things. Sadly, I fell behind on documenting style, but not on dressing well. I wore some FABULOUS outfits over the past week and a half since my last post, I just didn't photograph them and write about them. Oh well, I'll just have to re-create the magic for you all. hahaha.

Today is a casual day (well, casual for me -- which means either pants or no heels). Dressed-up in black tights, a black cardigan and this little black dress with Mexican style embroidered edging. Thrifted dress! ModCloth shoes! Woohoo! Two of my favorite shops!

Happy Humpday.

Passover Dinner: delicious foods for the whole year

I had a small Seder at my house on Friday. Just the family. But I cooked a LOT of food and we read the first half the PASSOVER HAGGADAH. ©Rabbi Amy Scheinerman, then we feasted. It was a great celebration and even though I eat dinner EVERY night at the table with my family, it was special. Here's a look at our dinner.

1.Roasted vegetables (carrots, yams, sweet potatoes): Chop, toss with a bit of olive oil, salt & pepper, lay out on a cookie sheet, bake at 400 for 45 minutes, turning half-way through.

2.Matzo ball soup: Manischewitz mix. (Use half the soup mix, twice the matzo ball mix and add your own veggies.

3.HAROSET! The sweetness to erase the bitterness. I use an Ashkenazic recipe from the Jewish Holiday Kitchen by Joan Nathan (LOVE IT!): diced apples, raisins, wine (or grape juice), slivered almonds, cinnamon, zest of one lemon, and sugar. Eat with Matzo.
4.Green Veg: sauteed asparagus...

5.Instead of Gefilte Fish, we had salmon cakes. (Substitute matzo crumbs fro bread crumbs.)

Anf for the finale...Matzo Toffee Crack for dessert!!!!!!!!!
O, so good! Food.com recipe here

It was great. Happy Passover or Easter to you if you celebrate the holiday. Happy cooking to you all!

Mixed prints: navy

I am loving NAVY! And this "dressing up" project and the blog are helping me be more brave and mix patterns. Today was such a success. This little cropped polka-dot sweater has taken some getting used to, but now I am just loving it and wanting to mix it with a bunch of things that I wouldn't have considered a year ago. That's progress. This patterned dress is comfortable and pretty and with the little sweater and red shoes and bag, I felt so put-together today. Dressing right can really bring about a whole positive outlook. Have a Happy Day.
Both the dress and sweater from ModCloth.

Made by Me: pastel teal vintage skirt

I was so inspired by a background actor's skirt in a MadMen season 3 episode (lawn mower party), I just had to make one like it. Even the extras look amazing on that show - Janie Bryant is a genius. I love wearing skirts and making them. Very versatile and I enjoy making interesting combinations.

Dressing = Collage...

This is one of those great "coordinates" patterns from the late 60's/early 70's -- They are fantastic for making lots of different complementary items. And the patterns are pretty simple. I'll use it for other pieces as well.

Vintage/thrifted belt; ModCloth shoes from Miss L-Fire - love them! Made-by-me top See pattern here...

It's NOT the 4th of July

Red, white, and blue are always in style - patriotic in America, France, Puerto Rico (which is America) Chile, and Russia (probably more countries but these are the flags that pop to mind). I was excited to pair these prints today. It's always a challenge to pair different prints - and so FUN! These are both bright pieces and similar in texture and weight so they just go together.  A fun outfit; I feel great today. How about you?

Jason Wu top

It has pockets!

Yep, it's got bikes on it.
