50's meets 80's

Rude girl 80's rock style, but just restrained enough for the office. 1950's housewife-dress paired with leopard print loafers, a black suit jacket, and chunky silver jewelry.  "This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no foolin' around."

This vintage gray cotton dress (from Goodwill) was in need of some alterations. I took up the hem about 8 inches, took off the huge apron pockets and took the side seam in about 4 inches on each side. I'm loving it now. Cute and comfy.

That's my bike in the background. Yes, I ride in a dress. Everyday.

My advice, as always, is to MIX IT UP!

Free patterns

Score. Craigslist just keeps on giving. I got these 2 boxes of free patterns from a woman in Culver City who is moving away and was gonna throw them out. Rescued! All the major brands are here: McCalls, Butterick, Vogue, Simplicity...

There is some ugly 70's and 80's stuff, but also some fantastic 70's and 80's stuff. I am set for a while I think. Happy sewing!!

April the Bear

So this is April, my childhood teddy bear. This dusty, smooshed bear has been in the closet for decades and is finally gonna get a new life. She is getting a stuffing transplant.

(Pre-transplant)

(Her 1970's stuffing had turned to foam dust, broken plastic lining and tiny bits of styrofoam. Toxic? Maybe.)

Over the weekend, doctors opened her up and cleaned out her old, corroded, decomposed guts. She was then re-stuffed and gently stitched back together with loving care. It was a hairy night of surgery, but she is now resting comfortably and out of critical condition.

Green and purple

I felt like a garden, wearing a green dress, today. I love this ModCloth dress! (Followers know I am obsessed with ModCloth.) The color is nice and so is the design, but it is the fabric that rocks! A very tight-knit strong stretchy lycra blend. I love it! Paired here with gold jewelry and deep purple wedges (Kenneth Cole). A fun flirty outfit! I feel like walking spring!
